Penguin Book-Alice's Adventures in Wonderland...

Below are the two final pictures that I chose to display my limited edition book covers in context.  I wanted to set a scene for my final pictures that related in some way to the story....so I chose the tea party scene and I think it has worked really well and I am happy with the outcome of the pictures.  I think I will use the landscape picture to place on my final boards as it has picked up more detail on the spine of the book where the gold foiling was placed and you can also clearly see both backs and fronts of the cover!

Flyer photographed in different context...

Flyer design for book launch...flyers could be handed out to help the sales of the new limited edition range of Puffin books. The flyers display contact details and inform people that they can go and collect their book in store now. The 'OUT NOW' will have gold foiling on it so that it one stands out and two emphasis's the limited edition range that is being sold.

Quick development idea for layout and composition of flyer to be handed out on launch day of the book!

Here I have photographed my printed book cover showing the front, back and spine. I made a few adjustments before printing as there were a few errors concerning the puffin logo in which I had used the wrong one in the pack provided and the type on the back needed re adjusting as it was 'lazy'.

1 of 6 final designs front/spine/back...

Illustrative J to start to involve on the back of my Alice's Adventures in Wonderland back covers...

This is an illustration that I drew in the style of Masha Karpushina that I then took into photoshop and added colour...I thought it could be quite fun and playful to put this design onto the cover of the book...its not too direct and the image doesn't give too much away about the story!

This is development work from my teapot illustration...here I have played around with copying and pasting and reflecting another teapot in illustrator so that I could work with adding type in the middle of them both much like the style of Daren Newman...I want to start to involve experimental typography!

This poster design stemmed from one of my pen drawings. They were orginally black and white so I decided to add some pastel colours to parts of the flowers...as a book cover I personally dont think it is appropriate or works but as a poster design I think it looks really eye catching and I think I could possibly work on it further and use it for my Don't Panic brief!

So taking Ralph Steadman's work into consideration I started drawing using appropriate images. I started by drawing this bunch of flowers and then scanned it into the mac to create an illusion of patterns making it almost unrecognizable as a flower.  I think it creates an enchanted and suspicous feel to it.

I worked on a brief relating to the Raplh Steadmans work in 2nd year so I thought I would look back at the work that I produced to see if I could get any inspiration.  I found this drawing that I produced below using different inks...although the content being a cigarette doesn't relate what so ever to Alice's Adventures its the style that I am concentrating on and the illusion of an object appearing to be something that it is not.

I produced a questionnaire to aid my work and development.  I asked people general questions about the story of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and what imagery they visualize when they think of the book which really helped me focus on in particular areas.  Also I picked up on this one comment, somebody mentioned researching into the work of Ralph Steadman where by his illustrations are very hand drawn and illusion based and I think that It could work really well on the front cover of a Penguin Book.
